The front board has some marks to the bottom, left hand corner. There are rubs to all the edges and corners also to the title. The title and pictorial illustration are clear and bold. The spine is sunned with rubs, including the top and bottom edges. There is a small fray to the top left side. The title and pictorial illustration is clear and bold. The rear board has rubs to the outside edges and the left hand corners are rubbed and bumped too. The front end paper and inside board is clean and bright. A small inscription has been removed leaving an indentation. The text block has some foxing, this has spread to some margins. The rear of the front end paper is foxed, as are the first eight pages. The colour frontis is bright and bold but has half come loose. The internal pages are clean and bright and the binding is tight.
Dust wrapper/ Last book listed to rear is Spitfire Parade, this would indicate that this wrapper is from a 1941 later edition. The price is 4/-. This wrapper has creases indicating that it has been placed on a medium thick edition before being placed on this true first book. The creases are on the front cover 1.5 cm from the front flap hinge, running from top to bottom. There are two down the spine both 1.5cm from the edges running from top to bottom. The back cover has a crease 1.5cm from the rear flap hinge, from top to bottom. The front cover has a 1cm closed tear to the top edge. There is another 1cm curved close tear to the top of the spine and a second to the top of the spine measuring 0.5cm. The back cover top edge has a 1cm closed tear to the top edge. All of these tears have been taped to the rear in one piece of tape. The rear of the jacket has been reinforced top and bottom and hinges with tape. The top edge of the front cover crease is rubbed. The top of the spine is rubbed, affecting the Biggles in the title.The back cover is a little grubby. There is a brown mark to the top of the rear flap. Not price cut.
